Easy, Healthy Summer Snacks

During the summer, children often don’t want to stop their summer fun activities to eat! So having some quick healthy snacks ready to go can help fuel all of their extra summer energy! Snacks don’t have to be sugary, fattening, treats with empty calories; here are a few ideas for healthy, easy to make snacks for kids. These quick “go-to” ideas are bound to help busy moms and dads develop healthy snacking habits in their children.

  1. Peanut butter & banana slices on a rice cake.
  2. Quesadillas made with whole grain tortillas, cheese and diced veggies, beans or chicken.
  3. Popsicles made with juice or nonfat yogurt and their favorite fruit.
  4. Fresh fruit and cheese kabobs – use mini cookies cutters to cut cheese into fun shapes.
  5. Whole grain Cherrios or Mini Wheats with dried or fresh fruit.
  6. Frogs on a log – celery, cream cheese, & sliced green olives.
  7. Peanut butter & apple slices.
  8. Veggies & dip ( plain yogurt & ranch dressing mix).
  9. Graham crackers with cream cheese and fruit.
  10. Smoothies – start with a base of nonfat yogurt, 100% Orange juice & a banana, add their favorite fruits.
  11. Egg salad or scrambled egg with salsa in a pita pocket.
  12. Hummus and veggies.
  13. Frozen whole grain waffles, cream cheese & fruit spread.
  14.  Homemade Oatmeal cookies (with raisins, diced apricots, cranberries, or walnuts).
  15. Low fat ham & cheese roll-up on a tortilla – microwave for a melty treat.
