Big Blue Marble Academy Students Raise $275,000 for Communities in Need! ( Cloned )

As we come to the end of 2025, Big Blue Marble Academy is excited to share that our young learners across our nearly 100 locations have raised more than $275,000 for local and global communities through our annual service learning projects. Over the last five years, students have raised more than $1.5 million.

We couldn’t be more proud of our young learners and the hard work they’ve put into bringing these service learning initiatives to life.  At BBMA, we let our students take the lead, investigating real-world needs, collaborating on solutions and taking meaningful action.

What is Service Learning?

Service learning brings community service into the classroom curriculum – teaching young learners about the issues faced in their community and around the world.

At BBMA, we call these service learning initiatives “Heart Projects,” and each one of these projects help students build skills and believe that they can make an impact on the world, while also strengthening our core learning domains.

How did BBMA’s Young Learners Raise the Funds?

BBMA students participated in several service learning initiatives across the year, each aligning with multiple developmental focus areas within BBMA’s curriculum.

Most recently, we completed the “Popcorn for a Purpose” Heart Project, and students sold $218,560 worth of popcorn products. Proceeds will fund the operational expenses and purchase of essential supplies for an orphanage through the GLOW Mission, as well as shipping for packages from the ongoing “Season of Giving,” which provides children in need with gifts for the holidays. Through this project, students practice math, teamwork and real-world planning.

This summer, our young learners created, ran and advertised fundraisers for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which raised $43,463.61 for the organization’s research into childhood cancer causes and cures. Students measured ingredients, counted funds, created signage and communicated with customers — experiencing applied learning in action.

Change for a Change” partners with Mission of Hope’s Madonna Project. This year, the school raised $16,718, which will support 167 new mothers at Rotifunk Hospital in Sierra Leone. Students also made 583 “Blankets of Love” for orphanages, shelters and local hospitals.

Why is Service Learning Important?

We love seeing these ideas catch fire in the minds of our young learners, and we’re so proud of the impact they’re making in our world today. At BBMA, we’re nurturing little minds and growing big hearts for a better world, and we can’t wait to see our young learners as they grow into our future leaders!

As our CEO, Jomar Jenkins says, “So much of childhood is spent hearing what kids will do when they grow up. We believe in also showing them what they can do today.”
